At its annual Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco today, Google announced that Chrome now has 310 million active users. Google’s Sundar Pichai also noted that globally, Chrome is now the most popular browser.
Two years ago, Chrome had 70 million users, said Google. Just a year ago, the browser had grown to 160 million users and now that number has almost doubled again.
Pichai also noted that Google wants to help its users to live online and in the cloud – and to do so seamlessly. That’s why Google started developing Chrome to help users along on Google’s “journey to help you online in the cloud, seamlessly.”

Today, however, there are still too many people who can’t get online. Over the next few years, much of the growth of the Web will come from mobile users, and that – said Pichai – is why Google is putting so much effort in making Chrome work well on mobile now and is making it the default browser on its new Nexus 7 tablet. With the help of mobile, says Google, “we should be able to get the entire world’s population online.”
