Facebook launches a new site to publish interesting stories from people across the world

Facebook is very well be on its way to become the next big online media company. The social networking giant has launched a new platform called Facebook Stories(FacebookStories.com) to showcase some interesting and original stories form people across the globe.
“The project started as a result of our seeing a number of stories coming into the company from different channels, including stories we would read about in the media. We wanted to create a place where we could celebrate great stories,” Tucker Bounds, a Facebook spokesperson, told ABC News.
The stories on ‘Facebook Stories’ revolve around different themes and are submitted by the users themselves. Anyone can submit stories, and Facebook may pick the best ones to publish on the site.
This month’s Stories page, features stories about memories shared on Facebook. The headline story of this month is that of Mayank Sharma, a 29-year-old man from New Delhi, India, whose entire memory was lost after he contracted tubercular meningitis. As he recovered, Sharma used Facebook’s People You May Know feature to help piece together the time he lost and was overwhelmed by the response. The connections he developed sent him notes and mementos to help him recover some sense of the life he had led. Though Mayank’s memory hasn’t returned – doctors are baffled as to why the damage was so great – these contributions proved to be valuable breadcrumbs for getting his life back on track.
The Bookshelf section will feature a Goodreads list of books that helps one dig deeper into each month’s theme. In this month’s story, author Joshua Foer shares some titles that helped him hack his memory en route to winning the U.S. Memory Championship, an experience chronicled in his 2011 book, Moonwalking with Einstein.
There is also a Playlist section that allows users to explore different genres of music curated by inspiring artists. This month, electronic artist Sabrepulse shares how nostalgia for childhood video games led him to the Chiptune community, a group of artists who turn old gaming systems into unlikely dance track instruments.
Finally, Facebook will also create an infographic based on the theme. This month Facebook analyzes the Biggest Life Moments from Timelines. According to the infographic, 42 percent of people who shared life events shared a story about travel.
