How to Disable Facebook Chat so that none of my friends can see me online or send me an IM message via Facebook.
If you like to turn off Facebook chat, click the chat icon in the lower right corner of your Facebook page and select ‘Go Offline’.
None of your Facebook friends can IM you as your name won’t show up in their friends list even though you are logged in. And this setting is preserved for future sessions as well.
