What Google Will Look Like In Year 2084

google2084-smallOk, as I plan to better organise this blog in near future (group posts by categories), I will try to make a category that will contain some great funny and geeky stuff that I’m sure all of you will like.
So let this be one of the first posts that can be put in ‘Funny’ category together with Can I Download The Internet? and The First Person to Use Emoticons in Real Life – Video and also Developers Of Firefox Are Actually Aliens?. If you like this one, be sure to check them all out!
So, we all know what the big G stands for in today’s world of internet. Yeah, it’s Google… See how fast Google grows? They try to expand their influence even further by launching the Google Chrome OS (although it’s recent screenshots have proven to be faked).
Did you ever asked yourslef what Google will look like in about 70 or 80 years ahead? Don’t bother yourself trying to imagine all that stuff… Here’s just one cool image that should pretty much explain it all… :) Enjoy!

Now You Can Change your Facebook Page URL

You can change your Facebook Page URL (or username) but before you do that, here are few things you need to know.

When you create a Facebook Page, the system assigns a random URL to your page that looks something like this:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/IceCream/123456
When 25 or more users have “liked” your Facebook Page, you can choose an easy-to-remember username (or vanity URL) for your Page that may looks like this:
https://www.facebook.com/IceCream
Once you have claimed the URL (or username) for your Facebook Page, there was no option to change it. The only workaround was that you delete the old Facebook page (thus losing all the likes) and recreate a new one with the desired username (provided it is available).
Well that old policy seems to have changed recently and Facebook Page owners can now change the usernames of Pages that they are admin of. To get start, Open any of your Facebook Pages, go to Edit Page –> Update Info and click the “Change Username” link under the Username option.

Changing your Facebook Username – Things to Know

Before you change the URL, here are few things you should know:
  • When you pick a new URL for your Facebook Page, the old URL will no longer work (returns a 404). Therefore, make sure that you update any existing links in your web pages, email signatures, etc. that point to the old Facebook Page URL.
  • Be very careful when choosing the new URL for your Facebook Page because you are allowed to change the username of any Page only once.
  • Facebook Pages ignore periods (.) in the URL and they are also case insensitive. Thus facebook.com/icecream is same as facebook.com/ice.cream or even facebook.com/Ice.Cream.

12 Cool Typography Desktop Wallpapers

From now on, I plan to post at least one collection of wallpapers every month. Many of us like when our desktop look stylish and it’s somehow easier to work in such a great environment, right?
life-s-a-journey-wallpaperEven if you find a great wallpaper for your desktop, after particular amount of time that same cool wallpaper seems outdated and you’re bored with it. Am I right? Well, that’s true for most people… Besides, it’s always good to make some changes and refreshments from time to time.
I will do my best to find the very best of desktop wallpapers from all around the web and put them together into a post. And I will do that on a regular basis (monthly or maybe weekly) so all of us will always have a fresh, new wallpaper substitute for that old one that we got bored of.
So let’s start with a collection of Typography Wallpapers that I’m sure many of you will like!

15 Great Gmail Sidebar Gadgets You Won’t Find in Labs

gmail-gadgets-labs-googleI think Gmail is the best e-mail client available on the web. It’s better than most ‘premium’ e-mail clients that demand monthly payment or subscription.
One of the great things in Gmail is of course Google’s Gmail Labs where many developers showcase and test their creative and useful gadgets.
Amongst those you can find pretty great features that can really make your inbox more functional, and sometimes more fun. Like the one that enables you to add Twitter to your Gmail inbox in 3 steps or even these 5 Cool Gmail Apps.
But here’s something you need to know. Gadgets you can find in Gmail Labs are not the only ones available on the web. There are far more of them out of Labs, and to find those, you will need to put some effort and search for a while. There are some real gems out there, believe me.
To save your time, I made a search and compiled a list of 15 great Gmail gadgets that will add some social media juice to your inbox and make it easier for you to stay tuned on all your online profiles, directly from Gmail. You can stay in your inbox 24 hours a day now! Everything you need will be there! :)
But first you need to enable “Add any gadget by URL” functionality on Gmail Labs.
To do so you need to go to Settings > Labs and switch to ‘Enable’ button next to “Add any gadget by URL” gadget. After that you will be able to add gadgets by submitting the URL in the Settings > Gadgets page.
Below every gadget, I will post an URL to it, so you get that URL and paste it in Gadgets page, as explained above. Nice and easy.
So here they are, the great 15!

Add Your Friends From Facebook To Google+ (Plus)

If you are one of the early adopters and want to give Google+ a try, one of the biggest problems for you must be how to import all of your Facebook friends into your Google+ profile.
There is no direct way to do this, yet, but here’s a short and easy workaround that will add your Facebook friends to Google+ in no time.

You will need a Yahoo! account and (of course) Google (+) Plus account.
1. Go to your Yahoo! mail account and go to “Contacts” tab. Then click “Import Contacts”.
add facebook contacts to yahoo
2. From the given options, choose “Facebook”. After that, you will be asked to grant permission to Yahoo to access your Facebook contacts, so you go ahead and click “Okay”.
choose facebook
Then you will see short message “Retrieving data from Facebook…” And just so you know, this process might take a while… It depends on number of your friends, if you have 1000+, you’ll need to be patient for a moment (however ironic that may sound)
3. Refresh page and go to your “Contacts” tab again. Check the button to select them all from the list. Now click “Actions” and from the drop-down menu choose “Export All…”
export contacts via yahoo csv
4. From the available options of exporting, choose Yahoo CSV format and click “Export Now”.
Yahoo csv format of exporting contacts
You will be asked to enter a Captcha anti-spam code here, so you do that. Then wait for about 5 seconds and you will see your contacts have been exported and downloaded into a Yahoo CSV file format. We will use that file now to upload the contacts to your Gmail account.
5. Go to your Gmail account. Click on “Contacts” button located below “Mail” button on the upper left side. Then click “More” and from the drop-down menu choose “Import”.
import yahoo contacts to gmail and goole plus
6. In the pop-up window, click the “Choose File” button and find the Yahoo CSV file that we downloaded before in the step 4. Then click on “Import”.
upload contacts to gmail
7. And now finally, you can see all your contacts there in Gmail, which means they will also be available in the Google+ Circles panel.
So now go to your Google plus page, go to Circles and click on “Find People”. There you will see all of your Facebook friends ready to be added to your Google plus circles.
Now just add them to corresponding circles of your liking and enjoy your Google+ experience.
find people on google plus
If you don’t have Google+ account and would like to create one, but you need an Invite, then just ask for it in the comments, and I will send you one.
Enjoy!

Download Free Anti-Virus Software For Windows 7 Beta

If you downloaded Microsoft Windows 7 Beta, you probably need some antivirus software that is fully compatible with that version of Windows. (If you did not downloaded Windows 7 yet and still want to download it, then be aware that downloads will end on 10th of February, so hurry up) And if you already installed some anti-virus program, you might see some bugs and crashes occasionally. That’s because Windows 7 Beta is not fully compatible with many applications right now (I hope that will change with final version). So the anti virus software that you installed might have some conflicts with Windows 7.
That’s why Microsoft started to actively work with the security software providers and managed to get security software (antivirus) that is compatible with Windows 7 Beta. That’s good news, because when I installed the Beta version, I used it with my Kaspersky 2009 Internet Security, and although I must admit I rarely had conflicts with operating system, some problems still happened from time to time.
That’s why this is perfect solution for all Windows 7 Beta users. Plus it is free! Free antivirus software is available from Symantec, AVG (although AVG is always free) and Kaspersky. Below is the download link where you can get these for free.

free-anti-virus-solutions-for-microsoft-windows-7-beta

All licenses of these anti-viruses will expire on the day when beta version of Windows 7 expires in August. As long as you can use the beta version of Windows, you can freely use this antivirus too.

Anti-Virus Solutions That Are Available:

  • Symantec offers the Norton 360 3.0 Beta
  • AVG offers AVG Internet Security and AVG Anti-Virus
  • Kaspersky offers beta version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7

5 Websites to Create Your Own Music Online

If you ever thought about creating music by yourself, here’s your chance to see how well can you actually do it. It’s a great way to try, whether you are some kind of music artist or just a beginner and want to ’see how it goes’ or if you just want to hear some beats made by yourself.

There are many web services and tools that will let you create some rhythm of your own, but I will list these 6 that I recommend and they are also the most popular ones… I guess that should prove they are worth trying.

So just let go, be creative and enjoy!

1. JamStudio

jamstudio
An online music creation tool with a very user friendly interface. Simply input the notes, choose the instruments and hear the results. There is also a video tutorial to help you get started.

2. DubStep

dubstep
Created by LoopLabs, this online music mixer will let you create a wide range of electronic tracks. It comes with a big database of drum sounds, synths, bass sounds, keyboard and sound effects. Just mix them together and see what will come out. Don’t worry, it’s usually some cool stuff.

3. Tony-B Machine

tony-b
Quite an addictive little piece of software. You get a melody playing in the background, and you can press different buttons to add effects, vocals, change the key and so on. Use your keyboard and you will start feeling the groove. But remember, it’s really addictive… You’ve been warned! :)

4. Noteflight

noteflight
If you are a serious musician, Noteflight will allow you to create compositions online. It basically lets you create, store and hear to music notations online, with surprising quality. I can hear some classics already…

5. CreatingMusic

create-music-online
If you have young kids, this website is a nice resource to get them interested in music. They have a Java application that will let your kids make music online, and they will really enjoy the process. The interface is very simple: you just need to select the instrument and ‘draw’ the sound on the screen.

22 Windows 7 Keyboard Shortcuts & Hotkeys You Need To Know

win-7-keyboard-shortcutsHere is a list of 22 Windows 7 keyboard shortcuts that I recommend and use daily. These are huge time savers.
If you’re not shortcut-type of person, and don’t usually use shortcuts when working on your computer, you really need to reconsider that habit now.
At least when it comes to Windows 7 (or any other operating system) where you do so many things. Sometimes, there’s simply not enough time and you need some speed to tackle your daily tasks.
That’s why knowing these will definitely be of huge help. It gets a little bit hard at the beginning, because you need to remember all (or some) of them and try to make yourself really use these instead of just “knowing” them.

But eventually after a week or so, you will get completely used to it and you’ll notice how much time you save just by using them.

Love Windows? Now It Can Be With You 24/7

In recent years, we have seen the rise of the iPhone and Android phones. These smartphones are everywhere, and have a majority of the industry under their control. However, Windows has recently entered the smartphone market with hopes of gaining a fair share, and will be releasing its new phones on November 8th. For Windows lovers, this means that their favorite operating system is now portable.
Three phone makers will incorporate the new operating system, and those are the more high-brow brands of HTC and Samsung, as well as Nokia. As far as which service providers will carry the Microsoft phones, not much is known; however it is speculated that AT&T will carry both the HTC Surround and the Samsung Focus. Samsung Focus and HTC Surround featuring Windows OS

As far as the operating system itself goes, Windows lovers can expect everything that they love about the system in the palm of their hand. The phone is fun and extremely easy to use, and can handle way more than simple functions like searching on Bing.com or finding a phone number through Anywho.com.
The interface is broken up into six hubs for easy navigation, and the predominate focuses are on People, Pictures, Media, Marketplace, Microsoft Office, and Games.
Windows Phone 7 User Interface
Facebook is very easy to use on the interface, but the Twitter integration could still use some work. The photo and media hub is very similar to Zune which is nice because it allows users the ability to sync their phone content with that of their computer. For gamers, the integration of Xbox Live makes the Windows phones an exciting new addition to the smartphone market.
Like Android, the Windows user interface is also highly customizable so that you can have what you want at your fingertips at all times.
But perhaps the biggest accolade that can be given to the Windows series of phones is that they don’t come across as an iPhone knock-off. They truly have their own unique interface, and are capable of giving each user a unique experience.

Whether or not Microsoft will be able to succeed with its Windows phones will be another story. While many reviews have given Windows phones high marks, the late entry into the market has many worried that they won’t stay around. So if you are a die hard Windows fan, show your support and get a smartphone that you can sync with your computer – get a Windows phone.

20 Free Tools To Open, Edit and Create PDF Documents

open-edit-and-create-pdf1
Simple things like splitting a document into several pages or fixing a simple typo – these  tasks can be easily done on any text file but are far more complicated when needed to be done on a PDF document. That’s why I decided to share with you some great apps that will make your work with PDF documents much easier, faster and more efficient. And the best part is – all of them are free!

Here’s what you can do with PDF docs:

Open PDF files without hogging resources

foxit-pdf-reader-1If you used Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 or 8, you surely went trough the pain of having to wait 30 seconds to open a PDF file. The latest version of the program, Acrobat Reader 9, improved a lot in performance but many users turned to other lighter and faster tools such as Foxit PDF Reader and Cool PDF Reader. Both offer maximum compatibility, though Cool PDF Reader stands out for its size – only 600 KBs. Foxit includes more features and can be embedded into web browsers. Excellent one!

Create PDF documents with a virtual printer

createpdfcreation_1Some years ago you could only create PDF files with Adobe Acrobat and the Distiller module. Luckily now you can choose between quite a few virtual printers that make use of GhostScript to create a fully compatible PDF file out of anything you print, with no limitations or watermarks at all. The most popular one is PDFCreator, though you can also use DoPDF and Bullzip. DoPDF produces smaller files, while Bullzip can encrypt the file and add watermarks.

Open PDF files in Microsoft Office and OpenOffice

pdf-to-word-converterBeing able to open a PDF file from a productivity suite certainly eases your workflow. If you need to convert a document from PDF to DOC, you can use these free apps: Some PDF to Word Converter and Free PDF to Word Converter. Both try to keep the structure and layout of the original document, but the truth is that results may vary. At least the first one, Some PDF to Word Converter, lets you process several documents simultaneously.

Split and join pages, cut, annotate…

split-it-box-coverIf you need to join PDF files into one or split a large document into several pages, there are also free apps for that. PDF Split & Merge and Adolix Split & Merge PDFPDFill PDF Editor and jPdf Tweak feature a wide range of options. But if you’re looking for a really powerful tool, then you should have a look at , two excellent apps that can add watermarks, combine and split documents, rotate pages and add notes, among other possibilities.

Copy and print text from protected PDF files

free-freeocr-netSome PDF files have copying or printing restrictions, which can be a nuisance. To copy text from a protected PDF you can use FreeOCR.net, a tool that scans documents with a powerful optical recognition engine. Another option is creating an unprotected copy of the file, which you can do with Free PDF Unlocker. This tool uses GhostScript to extract all the information and save into a new document. It has no graphic interface, but is very easy to use.
That’s it. You see that you can do many things on PDF documents for free and without using Adobe Acrobat and other premium software.

Mozilla Firefox vs Google Chrome vs Internet Explorer – Who Has The Best Commercial?

internet-browser-series-best-commercial
This will be a blog post series about internet browsers that will cover everything you need (and don’t need) to know about most popular internet browsers. Amongst other things that will be covered are reviews, comparing browsers, tips and tricks, recommendations and more stuff. So let’s start with today’s first post in this series.
I think we all know how much good advertising can help to make more people use the product that is promoted. Although, it’s not only good advertising that is enough for best quality of internet browser, I wanted to make a little comparision between the Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer video commercials. First of all I must say they are all great. I couldn’t decide which is the best so I posted all of them here. That way, you can see for yourself and share what you think about these commercials with others. But hey, don’t think that if one of these has the best commercial, that they also have the best or fastest internet browser. I will write another post i this series that will cover all cons and pros of these internet browsers (and I will include Apple’s Safari and Opera too).

But now let’s see which of the internet browsers has the best commercial (I did not add Opera and Safari commercials because I could not find their commercials but if you find one, please add it to comments so I can update post and add it here on the list).

Microsoft Internet Explorer Commercial

 Mozilla Firefox Commercial
